Anxiety, count your blessings, Mental Health

Wow – It’s Been a Year!

I can’t believe (but really i can believe) it’s been a year since I posted. A LOT has happened in this past year and some of it was difficult. I went to therapy for the first time this past year and I highly recommend it! I have a great rheumatologist who is also a Life coach who had a friend that was a therapist who got me right in last August and that was a big help. For me it helped me a lot with perspective.

I did A LOT. Of work on myself back in 2016 when I was training with Ryan. One of the things I worked on (with two very good friends) was overcoming anxiety.

Today I saw firsthand how far I’d come. We are headed to VA for our nephew Justin’s wedding to Emma. We had an hour and a half layover in Denver.

However once we boarded, listened to the pre-flight and taxied, we just sat on the runway. Turns out there was an issue with the plane. Eventually we taxied back to the gate. Prior Patty would have been soooooooo anxious she would have made herself sick.

But instead, I thought, ok I can run through the Denver airport. We were scheduled to land in A and our next flight was in B which meant catching a train, etc. As the pilot was updating us, I thought wouldn’t it be cool if now – since we are late – we ended up arriving at B. I stayed calm. I knew when the next flight was, and I watched Lessons in Chemistry on Apple TV.

We eventually took off over an hour late and guess what, we arrived at B and about 10 gates away from our connecting flight! AND our connecting flight was delayed waiting on flight attendants. So it all worked out without me getting worked up.

What made me think of this was while we were waiting in GJ, I got up and went to the bathroom on the plane. The girl behind me in line was fidgeting and I asked if she was okay. She said I’m extremely anxious as I have two connections to make and I’m a photographer at a wedding tomorrow. Seeing her anxiety, reminded me of the YEARS, I had spent living that way and it made me realize how far I’d come.

Just keep working on yourself. It is worth it!

We made it to Denver where Jess and Joe were waiting for us.
